Counterintuitive...
It's a word I've heard used more and more the last few years in regard to the gospel.
It means: contrary to intuition or common sense expectation (but often nevertheless true).
A complete nobody bears The Anointed One who will rescue the world? Foreigners, some from "enemy" nations will be called citizens of Zion? Wise men make the trip of a lifetime or pay homage to a baby? A king riding a baby donkey in victory?
It seems like all these amazing shifts that the bible is encouraging us to make begin by letting go of what seems logical in the world around us, and embracing something... other. What ideals have we adopted from our culture that need to change?
Father, we need a new imagination. We want to see the world from your view, and be ready to let go of our expectations. We want to trust that what you are calling us to is helping accomplishing your dream for the world. Amen.
