Readings:: Matt 2:3-8, Psalm 122
It is shocking to read that in the middle of this amazing story there sits Herod,
so filled with himself and his own agenda that he completely missed the wonder and the majesty of all that surrounded him.
God has visited humanity…
the Word has become flesh…
Jesus has emptied Himself…
Here we sit.
So close to Christmas.
Let’s be careful and wise to avoid the same mistake.
Family will visit…
we will drive through terrible weather…
our children will be children…
Where our tendency might be to be filled with ourselves and miss the wonder of it all let’s instead follow the lea of other characters in the story, like…
Mary… who treasured it all in her heart
Joseph… who obeyed
Shepherds… who were filled with awe
The Wise Men… who worshipped
Father, we trust You to continue the work you have begun in our hearts this Advent season.
We long to see you for who You are and treasure in our hearts all that You are doing, to obey without question,
to respond with awe as we watch you work, and to worship.
