Day 21

Readings: Matt 1:22-23 and Psalm 89

“I will sing of the Lord’s great love forever;
with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations “ (Psalm 89:1)

Today is a beautiful snowy day…

a great day to stop and be quiet and still.

Psalm 89 is a beautiful Psalm in which God’s faithfulness is repeatedly highlighted.

Take the time today to stop long enough to read slowly through this passage of God’s Word

and note the different places the Psalmist looks forward to the fulfillment of God’s promised deliverer.

This perspective may help us understand Matthew 1:22-23;

why an angel of the Lord jumped into the story as Joseph considered putting Mary away quietly…

there was so much at stake… this expression of God’s faithfulness now depended on Joseph’s faithfulness.

Isn’t this so often the case?

God’s desire to speak truth through your our lives requires that we open our mouths.

God’s desire to show mercy to someone in need often requires our willingness to give or to serve.

Father we are glad that Your faithfulness isn’t dependant on our faithfulness, BUT it is our desire to not miss those moments when you are asking us to be faithful that your faithfulness might be seen and experienced by others. Might we become increasingly sensitive to the ways You are leading us and the things You are asking of us, that Your faithfulness might be declared.
